Since 1950s, the USA has been the leading destination for international students, and it continues to host an increasing number of students and scholars from around the world. American Education system offers unimaginative flexibility and unbelievable facilities for research and self-development. You are free to choose your ďcreditsĒ according to your intellectual, physical, and financial capabilities.
US education is eminently affordable, if done in the right way. For Indian students willing to pursue higher studies, institutions in the United States offer excellent opportunities. Many graduate programs in the United States offer training that enables students to become teaching or research assistants. Most of the universities offer Research Assistantship/ Teaching Assistantship/ Service Assistantship, with a fee waiver along with monthly or biweekly stipend. At the advanced stages of a degree you will be able to tailor your coursework to fit your specific needs. U.S. degrees are recognized throughout the world for their excellence.
International students applying for Masterís degree are expected to have excellent academic background along with good GRE/GMAT†and TOEFL/IELTS scores. Some colleges/universities offer an Early Decision admission, for which the admitted students need to commit to enroll at the college. Normally, such colleges take ĎEarly actioní in notifying the students of ĎEarly Decisioní based on which the students have to accept the admission offer and make a deposit.
Bachelorís level education in USA is costlier than Masterís level. Students are expected to take more credits per semester, which leads to an increase in expenditure. Average cost of tuition and fees is approx. 10,000-20,000 $ per year, depending upon program, institution and location. Living expenditure would add up to another 8,000-10,000 $ per year, according to the studentís lifestyle. Financial Aid is very rare for Bachelorís level international students. While there are several options like Federal Stafford Loans and others for domestic students, such facilities are not available for international applicants. While earning their respective bachelorís degree, students can work hourly basis on campus. But off campus employment is ILLEGAL. This is one of the reasons why most students prefer studying from the Masterís level in USA or elsewhere.
It is not easy to support oneself with part-time employment since the program is intensive and students hardly find time to work beyond their study schedules. Also, Teaching and Research Assistantships are available for Masterís level and not for the Bachelorís. Thus, part-time employment options are limited and returns from the same, meagre.
After securing admission into the University one must start with the visa formalities. Visa process for USA is relatively simpler, and yet, tough to obtain! For those who are fully prepared with the required documentation and interview preparation, the process becomes easy. However, professional guidance and careful planning of the whole process is very important for success!
